Definition Objective

Walking ripen the ideas, develops the memory, & becomes a good auxiliary to the work of the mind.  Walking also dissipates gloomy ideas, vapors of melancholy, & hypocondriacal affections.  Walking provokes appetite, assists digestion, accelerates the general circulation and respiration.  It also brings fluids to the skin, thereby increasing cutaneous exhalation, it augments calorification & makes one resistant to the cold.   Running favors the development of the chest, dilates the lungs, and if moderate preserves the lungs from dangerous & inveterate diseases.

Walking, running & jumping are the best of the gymnastic exercises.

Complicated Exercises — wrestling, skating, elementary vaulting.
