A message from President Volpe
I am excited to be starting my term as president of ACSM! I am humbled and honored that my peers have entrusted me with this vital role. I am also determined to exceed your expectations in this coming year as, together, we enthusiastically pursue our new vision to extend and enrich lives through the power of movement.
Last month, after I accepted the gavel from now immediate past-president Irene Davis, and while leading my first Board of Trustees meeting as president, I introduced a motto, that came to me as I was preparing what I would say to our members: “We Are ACSM!” This phrase encapsulates so well my experience as a longtime member of this community we call home. Individually and collectively, We Are ACSM. Individually, we bring our talents to the table. Collectively, ACSM becomes better, stronger and more influential. Individually, we bring unique perspectives. Collectively, we transform those perspectives into a beautiful, multifaceted lens through which ACSM can see the right path forward. Individually, we are scientists, exercise physiologists, trainers, academics, physicians, students, and more. But collectively, we are unified as one body, laser-focused on advancing the science and practice of health and human performance. Collectively, we reinforce ACSM as the recognized leader in our space.
We are ACSM. We ARE ACSM. Every one of us is ACSM!
But that begins with you, our engaged volunteer leaders. You lead as committee chairs, Strategic Health Initiative and task force members. You lead as chapter officers. You lead as Board of Trustee members and past presidents. You are ambassadors of ACSM inside and outside our organization.
I need you. We need you. Our members need you.
So, as your president for the next year, I charge you as ACSM leaders to embody “We Are ACSM” in all that you do. Work hard. Lead well. Optimize your talent. Represent effectively. We have much to do this year, and there are challenges to face. But, if we are all in and work in harmony to advance ACSM as the premier sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world, there is nothing we can’t accomplish because, after all, We ARE ACSM!
