Research and Program Grants

ACSM’s Foundation grant program started in 1989 with one research initiative in basic and applied science, and it awarded $50,000 among five doctoral research students. Today the ACSM Foundation offers several research and program grant opportunities for students, early career researchers, and Exercise Is Medicine-On Campus institutions.

Travel & Research Awards

ACSM invests in the future of sports medicine and exercise science by supporting members. Student and professional members who meet eligibility criteria may apply for travel awards to offset the cost of travel to present their work at the ACSM Annual meeting.

A number of awards are available in different disciplines.

Diversity, Leadership & Training Awards

Supported by ACSM and the ACSM Foundation, these diversity, leadership, and training awards demonstrate the organizational commitment to building and recognizing the next generation of leaders in exercise science and sports medicine.

GSSI Pre-Conference

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
