I am pleased to introduce the Summer 2026 compendium of the Translational Journal of The American College of Sports Medicine (TJACSM) and am delighted to announce our new impact factor of 3.0! We are grateful to all the authors that publish in TJACSM and the over 200 scientists that participated in reviewing articles in the past year.
We currently have an open Call for Papers for Warfighter Health and Readiness and have already received many submissions for our collection on this topic.
This summer compendium includes a study of a comparison between field-based and physical fitness test performance over time in Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) by Mastrofini et al. Also published in this compendium is an article entitled ‘The Effect of Daily Omega-3-Fortified Protein Shakes on O3I and Physical Performance Among Active-Duty Soldiers’ by Rittenhouse et al. that showed that increases in Omega 3 Index (O3I) from daily intake of omega 3 fatty acids for 8 weeks were positively correlated with improvements in deadlift, hand-release push-ups, and sprint-drag carry performance. Also included are two studies of firefighters: ‘Longitudinal Assessment of Morning Hemodynamics, Hydration, and Perceived Stress in Fire Academy Trainees’ by Martin et al. and ‘Aerobic Capacity Protects Against Cardiometabolic Risk Independent of Occupational Tenure in Firefighters’, by Conner et al.
We continue to publish excellent articles in the area of Exercise is Medicine (see collection) and this compendium includes an important commentary by Schlicht et al. entitled ‘Standardizing Physical Activity Assessment in Healthcare: Toward Healthier, More Active Aging’ that emphasizes the need for standardized physical activity assessment, program referral, and clinician feedback across the life span. Finally, a timely study of Brazilian soccer players by Lobo-Triviño et al. entitled ‘Modeling Workload Evolution throughout a Professional Soccer Season: Variations based on Players Match Participation Profile’ investigates the importance of training groups in monitoring training load in soccer players.
TJACSM uses a continuous publication approach with articles bundled into four quarterly compendiums after appearing online. This immediate online free access to articles is offered without publication fees to authors or readers. This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance.
