ACSM strives to provide optional preparatory materials in multiple formats to assist candidates for the examinations offered. The ACSM does not require the completion of a course to take then exam, and does not review or endorse courses/materials offered by third parties. Candidates who choose to use and/or purchase preparatory materials are not guaranteed a passing grade on any ACSM examination.

OnVUE testing is not offered in the following countries: China, Cuba, India, Iran, Japan, Korea North, Korea South, and Sudan.
All other countries, take your ACSM exam conveniently from home through OnVUE online proctoring. A live proctor will monitor you through the webcam on your workstation to provide a secure exam experience. To view the OnVue polices and procedures, click here.
Sign in to the web account to schedule their exam. After selecting the exam, choose the “home or office” option. Follow the remaining prompts to complete the scheduling process. After successfully scheduling the exam appointment, candidates will be sent a confirmation email that will provide the appointment details and key information to know for the exam.

ACSM exams are only available in English.
ACSM Certifications have international portability (professional certifications that are recognized between countries). Certification candidates would need to go through the normal process with Pearson VUE and the exam will only be offered in English.
The specific organization that you take your CPR/AED training through does not matter, however, the format of the course does. Candidates MUST have CPR/AED certification (with hands-on practical) at the level required for the certification BEFORE taking any ACSM exam. ACSM does not accept 100% online CPR courses.
The ACSM EP requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology. An equivalent major refers to the completion of a degree which includes, at minimum, the following:
A minimum of 21 semester or 28 quarter hours of exercise science courses that clearly identifies the following content:
Exercise Physiology (this should be, at minimum, a 3.0 credit stand-alone course, or equivalent)
Strength and Conditioning (course[s] should include principles of strength and conditioning, not simply a 1 credit hour activity course on strength training.)
Applied Kinesiology or Biomechanics
Anatomy and Physiology (this could be either a combined course or separate courses)
Exercise Testing and Prescription (course[s] should include exercise testing and prescription for healthy populations and special considerations such as children, older adults, pregnancy, diseased populations, etc.)
Special populations (course[s] should include pathophysiology on a range of conditions, including CVD, pulmonary, metabolic, older adults, pregnancy, etc.)
Health Risk Appraisal (course[s] should include information on risk stratification or classification given a variety of health conditions.)
*There is no petitioning process for non-exercise science based degree programs nor consideration made for past experience. You must meet the above criteria.
