ACSM and NYSHSI release new Healthy Youth Sports podcast episode

The latest episode of the Healthy Youth Sports series launched in late May features a conversation with Karin Pfeiffer, Ph.D., FACSM, director of the Michigan State University Institute for the Study of Youth Sports, and Eric Utterback, ACSM director of strategic programs. During this episode, Dr. Pfeiffer shares how current events in women's college basketball influence today's top athletes, including how athletic success is built on strong foundations laid by coaches, parents, caregivers and family, emphasizing the importance of mental approach and athletic development. Dr. Pfeiffer also introduces three National Youth Sport Health Safety Institute (NYSHSI) pledges: The Athlete, Parent, and Youth Sports Organization Pledge for developing young athletes. Last chance for Eat Healthy, Be Active Community Workshops content from Health.gov

On June 28, the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion will be removing the Eat Healthy, Be Active Community Workshops page as content will be updated with new information released from the latest version of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The six community workshops on the Eat Healthy, Be Active Community Workshops page are based on the 2015-20 guidelines and the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. Each one-hour workshop includes a lesson plan, learning objectives, talking points, hands-on activities, videos and handouts. The workshops are meant for community educators, health promoters, dietitians/nutritionists, cooperative extension agents and others to teach adults in a wide variety of community settings. Registration open for the Exercise and Lifestyle Medicine in Oncology Care: A Medical and Survivorship Conference

The University of Montana School of Integrative Physiology and Athletic Training will hold a conference at the Missoula, Montana, campus July 9 and 10 dedicated to serving the cancer community with lifestyle medicine tools for the entire health care team. The conference is open to anyone, including scientists, survivors and caregivers, involved in cancer care and research. The featured keynote presenters are Kathryn Schmitz, Ph.D., MPH, from the University of Pittsburgh, and Don McKenzie, M.D., Ph.D., from the University of British Columbia. Major topics include exercise oncology, nutrition, cardiotoxicity and cancer treatment, complementary/alternative medicine, oncologic physical therapy, exercise prescription and standard care in rural Montana. Continuing education (CE, CNE, CEU) will be available for providers.
