Number of Awards Given: 2/year
Established in memory of Steven M. Horvath, PhD, FACSM, a longtime member and ACSM Citation Award winner, this award assists underrepresented minority graduate students with travel expenses to present their scholarly work at the ACSM Annual Meeting.
Dr. Horvath took great pride in his students, post-docs, and colleagues. He earned degrees from Oberlin College, Miami University, and Harvard University, where he met his wife, Betsy Dill. Their collaboration resulted in a book on the Harvard Fatigue Lab, complementing his extensive contributions of over 550 book chapters and scholarly articles. Throughout his career, Dr. Horvath held positions at various institutions and, in 2001, became Professor Emeritus at the University at Buffalo, SUNY. In 1971, he received the ACSM Citation Award for his significant contributions to sports medicine and exercise science.
