Frequently Asked Questions

An AMS is a software platform that manages an organization’s membership, events, certifications, e-purchases, and more.

The AMS impacts how you will manage your membership, apply for certification, schedule a certification exam, complete recertification, register for events, make purchases, and access learning materials, making these processes more efficient.

Key components include e-commerce, the website, Learning Management System (LMS), membership renewals, meeting registrations, and certification management.

The transition will occur early in 2025.

Everything! The website will reflect ACSM’s new branding and the Member Hub will be more easily accessible. Additionally, the interface will be more user-friendly, and navigation to services like renewals, event registration, and courses will be streamlined.

Yes, your log-in credentials will change. You will no longer need an ACSM ID number to log-in.  Instead, you will use your email address associated with your ACSM account. On your first log-in, you will be prompted to set a new password.

  • The new AMS will offer faster processing, improved self-service for managing your account, and better integration across membership services and educational resources.
  • You will have several self-service capabilities: reset your password, update demographics, print a certification certificate, and add a Chapter membership anytime

Membership renewal will be easier and faster, with automated reminders, simplified online payments, and auto-renew options.

For current certified professionals, the last day to print a score report for any currently held certification is Feb. 12. To access a score report, log into your PearsonVue account here.

After this date, no past score report will be available.

Auto-pay will be available for membership.  Future updates will include subscriptions to content.

  • The new AMS will streamline the process for visual tracking and completing recertification requirements and reporting continuing education. Additionally, you will be able to recertify at any point in your three-year certification period once you’ve input the required CECs and paid all applicable fees.
  • The implementation of the new AMS will bring with it a new certification and expiration cycle. If your certification expires during this transition period, you will have more time to recertify.  After the implementation of the new AMS, your certification will begin on the day you pass your certification exam and expire three years, minus one day, from that date. Example: If you pass your exam on May 8, 2025, your certification will expire May 7, 2028, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

The exam registration, application, and scheduling processes will all be integrated into the AMS, making it a more convenient one-stop shop to become certified.

Effective Jan. 1, 2025, ACSM will neither offer nor renew the following certifications:

  • Health Fitness Director (HFD)
  • Program Director (PD)
  • Exercise Test Technologist (ETT)
  • Physical Activity in Public Health Specialist (PAPHS)
  • Certified Inclusive Fitness Trainer (CIFT)
  • Cancer Exercise Trainer (CET)

However, if you previously earned one of these certifications, you will retain it, it will still appear in the “My Certifications” section of My Account/My ACSM, and you will no longer need to recertify in order to keep it.

Your access will remain, but with improvements in the course catalog and progress tracking.

All courses purchased and completed before December 31, 2024, will transfer all Continuing Education Credits (CECs) earned into the new system. However, we cannot guarantee that courses not completed will transfer progress completed accurately and may reset to the beginning of the course. If reset, you can still earn the Continuing Education Credits (CECs).
