Visiting Scholar Award

The Visiting Scholar Award provides support to investigators who need further experience as independent researchers to visit a clinic or laboratory of their choice to learn new and current techniques in exercise and sports medicine. Travel, financial support and laboratory supplies will be provided to the recipient for a period of up to six months up to a maximum of $5,000.  

Eligibility:  

  • Applicants must be an ACSM national member in good standing for at least two consecutive years including student status before applying. ACSM chapter membership alone does not fulfill this requirement.   
  • Open to members with a terminal degree (PhD, EdD, MD, DPH, etc.) at the time of application. 
  • The visit must occur after the official award notification and only one laboratory may be visited.  
  • Applicants must submit letters of support from their current and host facility that addresses the plan for the applicant’s training during the stay.  
  • Previous recipients of the Visiting Scholar Award are not eligible to apply. 

 

Award Requirements:   

  • Winners must attend the ACSM Honors at the ACSM Annual Meeting; one complimentary ticket will be provided. 
  • Winners must submit a written report of activities (2-11 pages as a PDF) within three months of completing the visit.
