Effective July 10, 2025, the ACSM Committee on Certification and Registry Board (CCRB) will provide commonly used metabolic equations and reference formulas on the exercise physiologist (ACSM-EP) and clinical exercise physiologist (ACSM-CEP) certification exams. These resources will be accessible to candidates during the exam and are drawn from theACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 12th Edition (GETP12)

  • Appendix C: Metabolic Calculations and Methods 
  • Appendix D: Reference List of Commonly Used Equations 

The CCRB affirms that the ability to analyze, interpret, and apply exercise science data is a more accurate representation of professional practice. CCRB regularly refines its certification exams to better reflect real-world expectations and evidence-based standards as part of its lasting commitment to continual process improvement.
