Dr. Bellissimo will begin by exploring the adverse health effects of physical inactivity. She will go on to highlight the importance of both aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercise, while also addressing common barriers to participation. Next, she will discuss the potential of bodyweight exercise as a practical and effective solution for achieving both aerobic and strength-training benefits, supported by relevant research. The presentation will conclude with a discussion on future directions for bodyweight exercise and its applicability across diverse populations.

Presenter

Gabriella Francesca Bellissimo, Ph.D., ACSM-EP, ACSM-CPT, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance at The College of Idaho. She earned her Ph.D. in Exercise Science from the University of New Mexico, where her dissertation focused on the impact of bodyweight interval training on adults with obesity. Her research focuses on developing accessible, time-efficient exercise interventions that improve cardiometabolic health and enhance fitness across diverse populations. She is also interested in the psychological factors influencing exercise adherence, particularly through novel and simplified training programs. Her professional background includes work as an exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation, a personal trainer, and a CrossFit Level 2 coach. She is passionate about translating science to real-world practice.
