ACSM From Around Field Science Webinar Series Open to Students

ACSM’s From Around the Field Science webinar series is designed to provide ACSM students and members with an opportunity to learn about the diverse science our members conduct. Join us for informal discussions with our ACSM members to hear more about what they study, the general research methodology they use, and some of the interesting results their research is generating. In November, Dr. Lukas Krumpl from Washington State University will present Plantar Fascia: Preventative Biomechanics”. In this webinar Dr. Krumpl will provide a review of the literature of fascia and strength training, including current practices and protocols used in research and in clinics. In addition, Dr. Krumpl will be introducing ‘prophylomechanics’, a preventative approach utilizing mechanical loading, as a possible connection with strength training. Join us on November 19th from 12:00 – 1 p.m. ET for this interesting discussion. This event is FREE for ACSM members. Register here.

Research opportunity for Healthcare Providers: share your experience with dance-specific care

The University of Central Florida is looking for healthcare providers to participate in a brief research survey to better understand healthcare providers’ perceptions, knowledge, access, and barriers related to delivering dance-specific care. The purpose of this survey is to identify factors limiting healthcare providers to delivering accessible, quality healthcare to dance populations. Respondents must be at least 18 years of age and currently licensed or certified healthcare providers or students in accredited professional healthcare programs. The survey is expected to take approximately 15 minutes and will be conducted via Qualtrics. Participants will also have the opportunity to request research-based educational resources and indicate interest in attending a virtual workshop on injury management for dancers. If you are interested in participating, you can complete the survey using this link. Participation is voluntary, and responses will be kept confidential. Data collection and sharing of results are not associated with ACSM. This study has been approved by the University of Central Florida IRB (STUDY00007873). Any questions can be directed to the principal investigator, Evyn Callahan, MS, ATC, via email at evyn.callahan@ucf.edu

Research Volunteer Opportunity for Healthcare Professionals in Elite Sport

McMaster University, in collaboration with universities in Germany, Canada, and Australia, is inviting athlete health care professionals to participate in a research study titled, “How are you? Mental health and adverse experiences of health professionals working with elite athletes.”  The purpose of this study is to better understand the mental health, harassment, and abuse experiences of health professionals in elite sport, to help inform prevention and support strategies.  Eligible participants include physicians, physical therapists, massage therapists, dietitians, psychiatrists, psychologists, chiropractors, athletic therapists, and others working with elite athletes.  Participation involves a brief, anonymous online survey (about 10 minutes). Responses are confidential, stored securely via REDCap, and no personal identifying information will be collected. Participation is voluntary, and data will be destroyed after 10 years. This study has been approved by the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board (HIREB #19104).  This research has no connection to the ACSM and data collection and sharing of results are not associated with the ACSM.  If you would like to participate, please follow this LINK.  For questions, please contact Dr. Margo Mountjoy (MD, PhD) at mmsportdoc@mcmaster.ca.

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
