As ACSM continues its progress toward the five bold goals established in our 2024–2026 Strategic Plan, the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) is already looking ahead. Building on the momentum of the past two years, the SPC has begun laying the groundwork for the 2027–2029 Strategic Plan, ensuring ACSM remains dynamic, mission-aligned and future-focused.

Building the 2027–2029 Plan: A Collaborative Approach

The development of the 2027–2029 Strategic Plan will emphasize inclusivity, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration. Each bold goal area—ranging from customer experience to fiscal sustainability—will undergo evaluation to determine what should be retained, revised, reimagined or retired.

SPC committee members and staff Bold Goal Leads will work together through upcoming virtual sessions (November-January), guided by data and input from member needs assessments, volunteer leader surveys and staff reports,

to identify and refine the next iteration of goals. Through additional feedback from member representatives, volunteer stakeholders, and committee chairs, the strategies will be developed and aligned to the goals. Both the goals and strategies will be presented to the Board of Trustees by August 2026. After BOT approval, committees will be engaged to develop actionable tactics to round out the plan and be ready for 2027 implementation. This process ensures that every component of the new strategic plan reflects ACSM’s mission, vision and values and aligns with the evolving needs of its members and stakeholders.

The upcoming 2027–2029 plan will build upon our achievements while positioning the organization to anticipate and address future challenges and opportunities. We look forward to sharing additional updates in early 2026 as the new plan takes shape and to continuing our collective journey toward a stronger, more connected and purpose-driven ACSM.

GSSI Pre-Conference

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
