The American College of Sports Medicine® (ACSM) and the The Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Science (CASES) (formerly the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences/BASES) have entered into a partnership that aims to increase opportunities for members of both organizations within Continuous Professional Development (CPD), research and collaboration. The organizations hold a reciprocal partnership allowing both ACSM and CASES members access to discounted CPD, events and conferences.

This partnership mirrors those held with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA), Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP) and Sports and Exercise Science New Zealand (SESNZ) further strengthening international relationships within the profession.

“We are excited to partner with the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Science to expand access to cutting-edge science and professional development for exercise professionals worldwide,” said ACSM Chief Executive Officer Katie Feltman, CAE. “This collaboration aligns with ACSM’s mission to advance health and human performance by providing our members with enhanced educational resources. Together, ACSM and CASES will empower its professionals to elevate standards of care and improve health through the power of movement.”

“CASES is delighted to now have a formal partnership with ACSM,” said CASES CEO Ian Wilson. “This relationship will increase the opportunities available for members of both organizations and highlights the positive international relationships the organizations have.”

Dr. Andrew Scott FCASES, a member of the Clinical Exercise Physiology-UK group, noted that the partnership will have a powerful impact on the industry by expanding educational resources.

“The American College of Sports Medicine is the world leader in global sports medicine and exercise science research and the operationalization of the Memorandum of Understanding between the ACSM and CASES will enable members of both organizations to benefit from a large catalogue of continuing professional development resources,” said Scott. “This relationship will broaden the reach of UK-based academics to disseminate their academic outputs through CPD offerings in this new partnership and enhance opportunities for developing global academic partnerships.”

GSSI Pre-Conference

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
