Awards

These awards are offered to help offset the cost of travel to attend the ACSM conference. The BIG Awards Committee will select Awardees based upon the submitted materials. The award consists of a certificate and a check in the amount of $300.00 USD.

These awards are offered to recognize exceptional student research in the areas of Biomechanics and Neuromuscular control. The BIG Awards Committee will select Awardees based upon the scientific quality of the submitted materials. The Awardee must attend the ACSM Annual Meeting to present their abstract. The award consists of a certificate and a check in the amount of $400 USD.

This award is offered to recognize exceptional post-docs in the areas of Biomechanics and Neuromuscular control. The BIG Awards Committee will select Awardees based upon the scientific quality of the submitted materials. The award consists of a certificate and a check in the amount of $500 USD.

This award is given to recognize early research achievements based on the scientific quality of the candidate’s dissertation research. Selection is based upon the scientific quality and impact of the submitted material as well as the application of the research to the mission of the American College of Sports Medicine. The awardee will receive a certificate and a check for $500 USD.

This award is given in recognition of an individual who shows great promise with early significant contributions to basic or applied research in biomechanics. Applicants must demonstrate commitment and dedication to ACSM through research, teaching, and service that advances the mission of ACSM, as well as participation in the College. Submission materials will be reviewed by the BIG co-chairs. The award consists of a certificate and a check in the amount of $700.00 USD.

This award is given in recognition of a mid-career scientist who has made distinguished contributions to basic research, and/or has contributed to the general discipline and growth in the field of Biomechanics throughout their career.

Special consideration will be given to those who have demonstrated commitment and dedication to ACSM through active participation in the College that advances the mission of ACSM. Active participation in the College includes, but is not limited to: publishing in ACSM journals; presenting at ACSM conferences; involvement in ACSM meetings and committees; long term attendance at national and regional meetings; and involvement in peer and public education. Submission materials will be reviewed by the BIG co-chairs and/or previous awardees. The award consists of a certificate and a check in the amount of $1000.00 USD.

This award is the most prestigious honor given by the ACSM Biomechanics Special Interest Group. This award is given in recognition of an individual who has made distinguished contributions to the development and enhancement of the education of students, has made distinguished contributions to basic research, and/or has contributed to the general discipline and growth in the field of Biomechanics throughout their career.

GSSI Pre-Conference

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
