Read through the Objectives and Minimum Benchmarks for consideration to better understand the expectations of earning this elite member status.
There is a formal application and assessment process. To have an application reviewed by the committee, applicants must attain specific “minimal” benchmarks in the path they choose. Meeting the minimum criterion does not guarantee advancement; only that the application will be considered by the committee.
For members with robust independent research and a distinguished publication record in peer reviewed journals such as those found in Index Medicus or Citation Index.
For members who have performed distinguished service to ACSM (above and beyond the minimum) and the sports medicine and exercise science community.
For members, who due to extenuating circumstances, do not have the opportunity to give significant service to ACSM (e.g. – international members) but whose service to the sports medicine and exercise science community is considered remarkably significant.
For long-term members who have earned a terminal degree where ACSM is their primary organization but have limited service outside of ACSM.
For long-term members without a terminal degree who have impeccable service to both ACSM and the sports medicine and exercise science community.
