Q: What kind of tech support did (does) Vivo provide to overcome that particular barrier to success?
- We have a customer support team (called our Vivo Care Team) that provides 1-on-1 phone and email support, as necessary. When we first connect with a new member, we get a sense of if that individual needs some additional support. If so, we offer a higher touch onboarding step called the Vivo Smart Start. We use that as an opportunity to walk them through how to join a Zoom meeting, look at their space where they’ll be exercising and make sure its safe, walk through some common moves they’ll be doing, etc.
Q: How long is each class- 30 minutes? An hour? And how much is the class focused on strength? Vs. cardio, stretching, etc.
- 45 minutes
Q: what assessments do you use
- We do a combination of the SPPB and Rickli + Jones Senior Fitness Test
Q: Do you have any age restrictions for your programs?
- No
Q: How do you get quality assessments while online?
- We primarily bring fidelity into the process by have a live individual who manages the assessment in real-time. We provide instructions prior to the assessment, and then do the counting, measurement and oversight to ensure accurate results. Finally, we record items such as what chair they used for their 30 second chair stands to ensure they use the same chair in the future, what the weight is for their 30 second arm curl test, etc.
Q: How long do you typically spend on the individual assessments and is the trainer conducting them or someone else?
- Assessments are typically 30-45 minutes long. It’s typically an exercise physiologist, physical therapist or researcher that is conducting the assessment. That said, we do use experienced trainers who have given assessments in the past, as well.
Q: How would you periodize with older adults’ groups which will have people with all kinds of health issues? Like one may have hip issues, another may have shoulder issues etc.
- We use periodization in every class – we execute 3 distinct workouts every week and change the “theme” of the workout on a weekly basis. Within that, we offer 4 different variations of each movement, allowing people to pick which is comfortable for them. Beyond that, as these are small groups led by a live trainer, we learn about the issues of each participant and customize the program for those individuals in real time. For instance, if someone has shoulder mobility issues and can’t raise their arm above their head, when we’re introducing a shoulder press, the trainer will specifically provide that individual with a different exercise.
Q: what is the cost of the welcome kit and team needed to provide this for older adults versus the cost that they pay for long term sustainability?
- The cost of the kits, including shipping is ~$30. I’m not 100% sure what the rest of this question means.
Q: I train all of my clients online. Some of them are as old as 90. Those with any fall risk, I require them to have an able person in attendance. How does Vivo handle participants with a high level of fall risk, or have balance challenges?
- We prefer the same – have someone who is in the home during the workout, but we also instruct them to do seated exercises until they feel more comfortable leveling up and doing standing supported movements.
Q: What does it cost?
- Vivo classes are typically between $15-20 per class, sold in monthly memberships that depend on if you want to join 1, 2 or 3 classes per week.
Q: Does Vivo take on clients that are also under medical supervised care?
- The short answer is yes. The longer answer is it depends on the condition. The need to be able participate in a follow along exercise class (cognitively) and be safe.
Q: What platform do you use for sending reports securely?
- We have a proprietary platform that we’ve built that manages all of the assessment data and reporting.
Q: what is included in the vivo kit (bands and?)
- We provide an exercise band (resistance tubing), a door anchor, and a soft measuring tape to use during the assessment.
Q: Is your programme available worldwide or just in USA?
- Worldwide
Q: Do the instructors do the assessments
- See above.
Q: Is the 50s the age range when physical activity should be implemented as a program for those in middle age to help acclimatize them to physical activity literacy and habitual lifestyle? If so, what do you see as a feasible way of implementing such a program?
- Ideally, yes – 50s is a wonderful time to implement this. There are lots of ways to make this feasible, but sadly all of them are challenging. Direct-to-consumer requires costly marketing and isn’t always easy to motivate people to try. Employee benefits are another avenue but are competitive and difficult to get distribution. Similar to health plan coverage.
Q: Does Vivo utilize health coaches as part of their holistic approach to further enhance self efficacy regarding behavior change?
- Not currently
Q: How would you also include dietary literacy and dietary habitual lifestyle in addition to physical activity?
- Other than providing education around the importance of protein consumption, we don’t currently do this. The best way to include this would be to partner with an existing organization that already has these services.
Q: Did COVID play a role in the development of this program?
- Yes! This was originally an in person program that we moved to online as a result of COVID.
Q: Do you have modifications for mobility-limited individuals? Ex. not able to stand, either wheelchair or walker.
- Yes, level 1 exercises are seated.
Q: Are there any separate cardio vs strength sessions, such as 3x/wk cardio plus 2x/wk strength?
- Not currently. Each Vivo session typically provides a cardio workout, as well.
Q: Is VIVO linked to the Medicare Silver Sneakers program?
- Not currently
