ACSM From Around Field Science Webinar Series Open to Students
ACSM’s From Around the Field Science webinar series is designed to provide ACSM students and members with an opportunity to learn about the diverse science our members conduct. Join us for informal discussions with our ACSM members to hear more about what they study, the general research methodology they use, and some of the interesting results their research is generating. In September, Karen Sheriff, MS, HCPC, CSP, the Executive Director of Project Relative Energy Deficiency in Dance, presents “Culture, REDs & Dancers”. This webinar will explore how cultural norms within the performing arts, particularly in classical ballet, shape the risk and presentation of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs). The session will examine high training loads, lack of periodization, and missed opportunities for strength integration. Attendees will gain insight into the systemic changes needed to better protect the health, performance, and future of performing artists. Join us on Sept. 18 from 12 – 1 p.m. ET for this interesting discussion. This event is FREE for ACSM members. Register here.

This informal webinar will cover:
- An exploration of each presenter’s path into their profession
- A depiction of a day (or week) in their careers
- Key skills and trends to prioritize as the field grows
- Actionable advice on how to get started
Whether considering grad school, clinical opportunities, sports and performance careers, or still figuring it out, this session will give two real-world viewpoints on how to navigate a sustainable career with biomechanics!
