Behind ACSM’s journals, books and publications is a dedicated team working every day to ensure quality, accuracy and impact. From managing peer review to guiding long-term publishing strategy, the Publications team plays a critical role in supporting the science and practice that define ACSM. 

Get to know the people behind the work: 

Barbara Bennett (Editorial Services Coordinator, MSSE) helps ensure submissions meet scope and standards, supporting a smooth and rigorous editorial process. 

Angie Chastain (Managing Editor, Books Portfolio) leads the development of ACSM’s book program, working closely with authors and experts to bring new ideas to life. 

Stephanie Custer (Director of Publications; Managing Editor, ESM) provides leadership across the publications portfolio, aligning day-to-day operations with ACSM’s broader strategy, and oversees ESM

Miranda Manier (Managing Editor, ESSR and TJACSM) oversees two key journals and helps connect ACSM content across print and digital platforms. 

Bryan Nyary, PhD (Managing Editor, MSSE) manages workflows and operations for ACSM’s flagship journal, ensuring efficiency and consistency throughout the publication process. 

Lori Tish (Assistant Director, Editorial Office; Managing Editor, CSMR and HFJ) supports multiple publications while helping guide the systems and processes that keep everything running smoothly.

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
