Still time to register for ACSM’s October From Around the Field webinar

ACSM’s science webinar series, From Around the Field, is designed to provide ACSM students and members with an opportunity to learn about the diverse science our members conduct. Join us for informal discussions with our ACSM members to hear more about what they study, the general research methodology they use, and some of the interesting results their research is generating.

In October, Tamerah Hunt, PhD, ATC, FACSM, Erica Taylor, PhD, and Melissa Kossman, PhD will present on the social determinants of health (SDoH). This presentation will highlight the ACSM pronouncement in the intentional examination of SDoH that drives the clinical and research standard in sports medicine to consider people, not solely problems. Join in to learn how this ACSM Call to Action statement challenges the field to move beyond awareness and into intentional action, embedding SDoH into research, education, and decision making to drive meaningful, equitable improvements in sports medicine.

Join us on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from Noon – 1 p.m. ET for this interesting discussion. This event is FREE for ACSM members.

Data on health measures available through Congressional District Health Dashboard

Data on over 40 different metrics of health, major health drivers, and health equity are available and organized at the county, state, and city level providing information on how districts are scoring in health outcomes, social and economic factors and more. The goal of the Congressional District Health Dashboard is to provide an array of actionable and nonpartisan data at the congressional district level with information on life expectancy, diabetes rates, uninsurance, and children in poverty, to demonstrate strengths and challenges in regions and drive change at the district, state, and national level.

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
