ACSM, ESA Partner to Launch ACSM-India Credentialed Personal Fitness Trainer Program

Mumbai, India – The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the Exercise Science Academy (ESA) are proud to announce an expanded strategic partnership that will bring ACSM’s globally recognized credentialing programs to India. Since 2003, Exercise Science Academy (ESA) has hosted ACSM Certified Personal Trainer exam preparation courses. The deepened partnership between ACSM and ESA represents a significant milestone in advancing the education and professional development of fitness professionals in India and aligns with ACSM’s vision to extend and enrich lives through the power of movement.

Starting in 2025, ACSM now offers the ACSM-India Credentialed Personal Fitness Trainer (PFT) Program, a certificate designed to meet the unique needs of fitness professionals in India, exclusively through ESA. The ACSM-India PFT Program focuses on foundational competencies, including initial client consultations, exercise programming, leadership and professional requirements to work in India.

“ACSM is thrilled to expand our long-time partnership with ESA to bring world-class fitness education to India,” said ACSM Chief Executive Officer Katie Feltman, CAE. “This collaboration marks a new chapter in our global efforts to empower exercise professionals and improve health and wellness worldwide.”

“We are honored to collaborate with ACSM to deliver this program to fitness professionals across India,” said Dr. Aashish Contractor, FACSM Director of ESA. “This partnership allows us to combine ACSM’s global expertise with ESA’s local knowledge, creating a unique opportunity for Indian professionals to achieve excellence in their careers and meet the growing demand for qualified exercise experts.”

As part of ACSM’s mission to educate and empower professionals to advance the science and practice of health and human performance, the ACSM PFT programs ensure that exercise professionals in India, China, and South Korea train consistently with ACSM’s evidence-based foundation standards and meet the unique occupational regulatory requirements of their respective countries. ACSM also provides opportunities for PFT credential holders to expand their careers across international borders through portability agreements between registers.

GSSI Pre-Conference

The Physiology of Hydration: More Than Water Alone

This session explores the physiology of hydration through an integrated lens—examining how carbohydrate, sodium, flavor, and fluid interact to influence intake, absorption, retention, and performance. We’ll review current research on fluid balance, osmotic drivers, and palatability, highlighting mechanisms that underpin voluntary intake and thermoregulation. Attendees will gain insight into individualized strategies, including sweat profiling and timing approaches, to optimize euhydration and mitigate performance decrements associated with >2% body-mass loss. Practical applications will be linked to laboratory- and field-based research, ensuring translation from bench to field. This pre-conference equips you with evidence-based tools to support athlete hydration across diverse environments and sporting contexts.
