Effective July 10, 2025, the ACSM Committee on Certification and Registry Board (CCRB) will provide commonly used metabolic equations and reference formulas on the exercise physiologist (ACSM-EP) and clinical exercise physiologist (ACSM-CEP) certification exams. These resources will be accessible to candidates during the exam and are drawn from theACSM’s Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription, 12th Edition (GETP12)

  • Appendix C: Metabolic Calculations and Methods

The CCRB affirms that the ability to analyze, interpret, and apply exercise science data is a more accurate representation of professional practice. CCRB regularly refines its certification exams to better reflect real-world expectations and evidence-based standards as part of its lasting commitment to continual process improvement.

Candidates and educators are encouraged to review Appendices C and D of GETP12 in preparation for this update. For further information or questions, please contact the ACSM Certification Department
