The American College of Sports Medicine is pleased to announce Jennifer J. Heisz, Ph.D., as the next Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of Exercise, Sport, and Movement (ESM). Dr. Heisz was selected from among a pool of many talented and qualified candidates through a rigorous application and interview process.
Dr. Heisz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at McMaster University. She served as an Associate Editor and the Associate Editor-in-Chief of ESM under inaugural EIC Dr. Gary Liguori and has been the Interim EIC of the journal since 2023. In addition, Dr. Heisz has extensive review and publication experience, including her book, Move the Body, Heal the Mind. Based on this experience and her work as Interim EIC, it is clear that Dr. Heisz will be an asset as the EIC of ESM.
Although Dr. Heisz has been acting in the role since her appointment as Interim EIC, she will assume official duties as EIC beginning January 1, 2026.
As the leader of the ESM, the EIC is responsible for ensuring the journal’s mission and scope are considered during the recruitment, submission, and publication of articles, and that all articles published in the journal are scientifically rigorous.
ESM is an international, open access, peer-reviewed journal focusing on all aspects of exercise science and sports medicine. The scope of the journal is purposely broad to encompass scientific, clinical, public health, community, and policy topics in all areas related to sports and exercise medicine, exercise-related physiology, nutrition, metabolism, and physical fitness.
