As we begin a new year, I want to thank you for the time, energy and care you continue to invest in ACSM. Our College is strong because of the people who show up — in committee meetings, in chapter leadership, in our journals, in our certification programs, and in advocacy efforts that protect and advance our field.
One of the privileges of serving as ACSM President is seeing the full picture of that work. It is steady, it is meaningful, and it is moving us forward.
Our work is stronger when we participate
The ACSM election is now open. I want to encourage every eligible member to take part.
Elections are one of the most direct ways members shape the future of our organization — from governance, to priorities, to representation. Voting is also an important reminder of what ACSM is at its best: a professional home guided by evidence, service and thoughtful leadership.
Please make time to review the candidates and cast your vote. Your voice matters, and your participation strengthens ACSM.
Moving Together to Move Forward
This quarter, I’m also pleased to share that the work of my presidential task force — Moving Together to Move Forward — has officially begun.
ACSM’s strength has always been our multidisciplinary community. But that strength also requires intention: clear alignment, meaningful connection points for members, and structures that make it easier to work together across our many areas of expertise.
This task force is charged with taking a thoughtful look at how ACSM can better align our internal and external programs, streamline how we collaborate, and create more accessible pathways for engagement and service. The task force has begun meeting and will develop recommendations for the Board of Trustees to consider as we continue strengthening ACSM for the future.
Staying focused on what matters most
This quarter, I remain focused on the practical work of governance: ensuring ACSM is well-led, accountable, and positioned to serve members and the profession with clarity and consistency. Good governance isn’t flashy, it’s foundational — and it’s one of the ways we protect what makes ACSM trusted around the world.
I’m grateful for the partnership of our Board of Trustees, committee leaders and ACSM staff as we continue moving important work forward.
Partnerships that support our mission
Another area I continue to prioritize is partnership, because the right partnerships expand what ACSM can do and who we can reach.
When ACSM partners well, we extend evidence-based knowledge into more communities, strengthen professional standards, and support more people working every day to improve health through movement. That’s the kind of growth that matters: growth that supports quality, credibility and real-world impact.
Advocacy that reflects our values
I also want to acknowledge the continued advocacy work happening on behalf of ACSM members and stakeholders. The policies being debated and decided today influence research funding, professional practice, and the future of physical activity in health care and communities.
I’m proud of ACSM’s consistent presence and thoughtful leadership in these conversations, and I appreciate everyone who supports this work — whether through direct involvement, sharing expertise, or simply staying informed.
As always, thank you for your leadership and your commitment to ACSM. I’m honored to serve alongside you, and I’m energized by the work ahead.
With appreciation,
Carrie Jaworski, MD, FACSM, FAAFP
