ACSM to Implement Mandatory First Aid Training for Certified Professionals in 2027

The American College of Sports Medicine’s (ACSM) certified professionals play a crucial role in ensuring the health and safety of their clients, extending beyond exercise routines. It is essential to provide immediate basic first aid care in certain situations to prevent the rapid deterioration of a client or patient’s condition and minimize the risk of long-term injury or death.

Recognizing the significance of these skills, the ACSM certification board is implementing a mandatory first aid requirement for all ACSM certification programs starting from January 1, 2027. This requirement provides reasonable assurance to the public that ACSM exercise professionals are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively handle unforeseen emergencies.

Additionally, exercise professionals can now earn Continuing Education Credits (CECs) for completing first aid courses during their active certification period, effective immediately.
